Room-Temperature Catalyst Enables Selective Acetone Sensing

چکیده
Catalytic packed bed filters ahead of gas sensors can drastically improve their selectivity, a key challenge in medical, food and environmental applications. Yet, such require high operation temperatures (usually some hundreds °C) impeding integration into low-power (e.g., battery-driven) devices. Here, we reveal room-temperature catalytic that facilitate highly selective acetone sensing, breath marker for body fat burn monitoring. Varying the Pt content between 0–10 mol% during flame spray pyrolysis resulted Al2O3 nanoparticles decorated with Pt/PtOx clusters predominantly 5–6 nm size, as revealed by X-ray diffraction electron microscopy. Most importantly, contents above 3 removed up to 100 ppm methanol, isoprene ethanol completely already at 40 °C relative humidity, while was mostly preserved, confirmed mass spectrometry. When combined an inexpensive, chemo-resistive sensor flame-made Si/WO3, detected selectivity (≥225) over these interferants next H2, CO, form-/acetaldehyde 2-propanol. Such do not additional heating anymore, thus are attractive mobile health care devices monitor, instance, lifestyle changes gyms, hospitals or home.

Elimination of formaldehyde over Cu-Al2O3 catalyst at room temperature.
Catalytic elimination of formaldehyde (HCHO) was investigated over Cu-Al2O3 catalyst at room temperature. The results indicated that no oxidation of HCHO into CO2 occurs at room temperature, but the adsorption of HCHO occurs on the catalyst surface. With the increase of gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) and inlet HCHO concentration, the time to reach saturation was shortened proportionally. The ...
متن کاملRoom temperature hydrophosphination using a simple iron salen pre-catalyst.
Phosphines are fundamentally important to the fine chemicals, pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Reported is the first example of alkene hydrophosphination using a designed iron pre-catalyst which yields the anti-Markovnikov products in high yield at room temperature. The phosphine products are excellent pro-ligands for Fe-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling.
متن کاملSilver nanoparticle anchored carbon dots for improved sensing, catalytic and intriguing antimicrobial activity.
Fluorescent carbon dots (NSCDs) with a size of ∼5 nm (λex = 320 nm and λem = 386 nm) have been synthesized under reflux from an alkaline mixture of dopamine and cysteine. The synthesized NSCDs are hybridized with in situ generated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) obtained by mixing AgNO3 at room temperature. NSCDs enrich the plasmonic bands of AgNPs due to the localized surface plasmon resonance (L...
متن کاملRoom Temperature Gas Sensing with Ultrathin Au Nanowires
One-dimensional nanostructures are of particular interest in nanoelectronics because of the ease with which they can be utilized in fabricating nanodevices where their long axis facilitates contact to the structure, while the short axis preserves the quantized nature of electronic levels. It is therefore desirable to synthesize precisely controlled semiconductor and metal nanowires to study the...
متن کاملRoom-Temperature Humidity Sensing Using Graphene Oxide Thin Films
In this article, we report on a room-temperature humidity sensing device using graphene oxide (GO) thin films synthesized by chemical exfoliation. Changes in the device conductivity are measured for varying relative humidity in the experimental chamber. Experiments are carried out for relative humidity varying from 30% to 95%. We observe a difference in the results obtained for low relative hum...
